Showcase to promote the best of Fitzroy and Central Queensland

The Fitzroy and Central Queensland region will entice South East Queenslanders to make the move to regional Queensland at the inaugural Regional Queensland Showcase from 12-13 June.

The Department of State Development Director-General David Edwards said the event would bring Queensland’s seven regional areas together to show Brisbane residents and businesses the many opportunities that exist in the regions.

“The two-day program will give attendees the opportunity to engage with regional representatives and exhibitors, while learning first-hand how regional Queensland is a great place to live, work, learn and invest,” Mr Edwards said.

“The Regional Queensland Showcase puts our regions at the forefront in our effort to deliver jobs, drive economic development and build strong and resilient communities.”

CQROC Chairman and Banana Shire Mayor Cr Ron Carige said the Fitzroy and Central Queensland region wants to maximise its exposure from the event.

“The Showcase is an ideal opportunity for us to highlight Central Queensland and all is assets: people, culture, entertainment, business, education, tourism, industry, modern transport and jobs,” Cr Carige said.

“We also want to showcase the fact we are only a short flight from Brisbane; that our townships serve as gateways to the Outback and the Great Barrier Reef; and there’s endless opportunities for those who choose to live, work or invest here.”

Minister for State Development Dr Anthony Lynham will launch the event at the Building Our Regions Lunch with Australia Pacific LNG’s CEO Page Maxson, Regional Australia Institute’s CEO Su McCluskey and JESI Co-Founder and Director Joe Hoolahan on 12 June.
Following the lunch, a program of investment themed seminars will be delivered by regional Queenslanders with vast knowledge of their area and opportunities within it.

Free to the public, Saturday 13 June David Edwards said exhibitors are pulling out all stops to showcase the best of what each region has to offer.

“With less than three weeks to go, all seven regional exhibitors have been sharing innovative plans for displays allowing them to showcase the best of their region,” Mr Edwards said.

“Rockhampton-based musical duo Busby Marou will head the entertainment line-up sharing their roots-folk sound and advocacy of regional Queensland.

“A team of Fitzroy and Central Queensland representatives will also be at the available at the exhibit to offer region specific information and answer questions.”

There will be cooking demonstrations by celebrity chef Alastair McLeod, special appearances by rugby league legends Shane Webcke and Darren Lockyer and poetry, written exclusively for the Showcase by Queenslander Rupert McCall.

The Showcase itself will feature large displays dedicated to each of Queensland’s regions, two large entertainment stages, exhibitor booths for private businesses and a full program of activities.

A collaboration between the Queensland Government, regional councils, economic development organisations and the private sector, this event is set to be a highlight of the state’s calendar.
